The IPC offers opportunities for meaningful learning, allowing students and teachers to establish connections that facilitate and promote the pursuit of knowledge, skill development, and understanding in various contexts. The goal of the IPC is to foster a love for learning through a combination of rigorous academic, personal, and international education. Our students learn through a series of units of work, with over 130 to choose from. Each thematic unit is carefully selected to meet the needs of our school community in a particular national and international context. These units provide a relevant, engaging, and meaningful context where students explore and discover answers to their questions across different curriculum areas.
Internationalism in IPC a strong element of internationalism is integrated into each IPC unit. Through this curriculum, we offer opportunities for our children to:
The focus of any educational institution is learning, which can occur in various forms: academically, socially, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Our curriculum provides all our children with opportunities to learn and develop in many ways. Given the unpredictable nature of future work and life opportunities, many future jobs do not yet even exist today. The IPC’s research-based approach and skill development aim to prepare all children for the constant changes in our world.
At St. George’s College, we promote active and cooperative learning, and learning is central to everything we do. Our staff is responsible for ensuring that our children learn and develop, and we encourage our children to take responsibility for their own learning.
Parents also play a significant role. At the start of each unit of work, we inform parents about what their children will learn and suggest ways they can actively participate in their development. Work is celebrated and shared throughout the year with parents and the school community.
Methodology is the means through which the foundations for the learning process are established, following the model selected by the Institution. At St. George's College, we adhere to the guidelines from the National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) under the competency-based approach. This methodology is supported by a research-based approach and complemented by guiding principles that identify us as a school promoting British values and culture.
From the pedagogy of knowledge, we emphasise the importance of sensorimotor and cognitive activity, enabling students to develop individually meaningful learning experiences. Student activity involves leveraging their capacities and aptitudes to construct their learning through interaction with peers and teachers.
Our pedagogical model promotes an active, competency-based education, emphasising meaningful learning through discovery and investigation. It encourages constant reflection and awareness of one's learning process, developing knowledge and attitudes that enable students to integrate effectively into both local and international labor markets. We are committed to the holistic development of our students and continuous education, where learning is exciting and lifelong. Our curriculum fosters personal values: integrity, reflexivity, solidarity, respect, and responsibility.
At our educational institution, within the framework of the National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), we view evaluation as an ongoing process of communication and reflection on students' learning outcomes. This process is formative, comprehensive, and continuous, aiming to identify students' progress, difficulties, and achievements to provide the necessary pedagogical support for improvement.
Following our curriculum guidelines, the focus of evaluation is on competencies, which are assessed considering the standards and performance criteria in various areas. Techniques and instruments are used to gather information for decision-making, providing feedback to students and refining pedagogical processes.
Evaluation at the Primary level is characterised by being comprehensive, ongoing, and flexible:
