Mr. Luis Sifuentes
Head of Upper School

At St. George’s College, we offer Upper School students the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme, which comprise a demanding and stimulating pre-university curriculum lasting two years. This program is intended for all students in grades 10 and 11 and requires a high level of motivation. The program culminates in international examinations taken from the end of October to mid-November of the second year, and successful completion grants a qualification recognised by prestigious universities both domestically and internationally.

Grade 9 students, while completing the IMYC Programme, receive workshops and informational sessions about the IB Programmes and the variety of courses they can choose from. At the end of the year, they must present a Final Project, the Pre-Extended Essay, which is calibrated to their level of achievement and consists of a 2500-word research essay on a proposed topic. This project shares the characteristics of the IB Extended Essay and helps students further develop the learning skills required by the IB, which include self-management, communication, social skills, research, and thinking.

Our proposal, based on an internationally-minded education, ensures that our students are educated to be tolerant, proactive citizens who are sensitive to their environment and the community around them.

The IB Diploma Programme prepares students for university and encourages them to:

  • Ask complex questions.
  • Learn how to learn.
  • Develop a strong personal and cultural identity.
  • Develop the ability to understand and communicate with people from other countries and cultures.
