Identity

History

Our origins trace back to 1932 when Miss Minnie Nikolas, who had come to Peru from England, decided to establish Colegio San Jorge in Miraflores. Initially conceived as an academy for teaching English, it aimed to serve the children of Cantuarias Street. The idea materialised with a kindergarten section consisting of six students of both sexes.

In 1936, the school relocated to Schell Street and officially changed its name to St. George's. It began operating as a bilingual school focused not only on English education but also on providing comprehensive education for students. Miss Nikolas believed in the importance of personal development as an integral part of education, instilling fundamental values of respect and responsibility, which in turn fostered honesty, sincerity, and the ability to support and defend what is right and true. She advocated for moral strength, known as moral fibre in the UK, alongside firm character as the central tenets of the school's educational philosophy, laying the foundation for students' confidence and success in life.

On April 1st, 1956, the school moved to its current location on Montagne Avenue in La Aurora, Miraflores, accommodating a significantly larger student body across all educational levels: preschool, primary, and secondary. During this period, due to government regulations, the school temporarily reverted to being known as San Jorge de Miraflores.

In its pursuit of providing top-tier international education, in 2011 the school inaugurated its new Villa campus in the district of Chorrillos. This new facility marked a significant leap in educational quality, featuring expansive areas for sports, specialised classrooms, and facilities to accommodate students from Grade 5 to Grade 11. This campus quickly became "the big school" that younger students aspired to attend.

Continuously striving to innovate and enhance our educational offerings, in March of this year, we inaugurated our third campus, "Little St. George," in La Calera, Surquillo district. Specifically designed to cater for Nursery (3 years) and Pre-Kinder (4 years) students, this space provides all the necessary amenities and equipment to deliver education aligned with our identity.

Throughout its 92 years of institutional existence, St. George's College has forged its identity as a British school offering comprehensive, innovative, and internationally-oriented education, thanks to strategic alliances with national and international organisations such as Round Square, International Baccalaureate, International Curriculum Association, British Schools of Peru, Adecopa, amongst others.
