International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC)

The International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) is a globally recognised educational approach designed for students from Grade 6 to Grade 8, officially extending to Grade 9 at our school. This program focuses on fundamental concepts known as "Big Ideas," which guide the students' learning process and are carefully selected to meet the needs and interests of our school community.

Students at St. George’s College engage in a variety of units within the IMYC framework, each revolving around these "Big Ideas." These units address relevant contemporary themes, making learning meaningful and applicable for students.

In the IMYC, the learning process is based on five essential stages: Entry Point, Research, Record, Reflect, and Exit Point.

Entry Point: Entry Point: This stage marks the exciting beginning of each unit, where students dive into the theme through hands-on experiences, dynamic presentations, or educational excursions. It serves to spark students' interest and curiosity before embarking on formal research.

Research: Research: This stage involves active inquiry by students, exploring and discovering concepts from various perspectives. It fosters curiosity and promotes critical and creative thinking.

Record: Record: After completing their research, students document and represent what they have learned. This stage involves creating tangible products that demonstrate their acquired knowledge and understanding.

Reflect: Finally, students reflect on their learning process, evaluating their understanding and identifying areas of strength and opportunities for improvement. This stage is crucial for metacognitive development and personal growth.

Exit Point: Exit Point: This stage marks the end of the unit, where students present their learnings creatively and reflect on their learning journey. It is an opportunity to consolidate their understanding and celebrate their achievements before moving on to the next unit.

The IMYC promotes the development of lifelong skills and a broader understanding of the world around us. At St. George’s College, we are committed to following the IMYC guidelines, adopting a competency-based approach focused on the holistic development of our students.
